Are the expensive shampoos really much better than the cheap ones?

My wife has been buying Biolage and Paul Mitchell shampoos lately. They're like $20 a liter, except when they're on sale sometimes $10 a liter. That's a lot more than a bottle of $2 Suave. Is it really that much better? I can't tell the difference myself.Are the expensive shampoos really much better than the cheap ones?
Absolutely there is a difference. You are better off with salon products and here is why.





Most come with a guarantee. If you don't like it, most salons will give you a full refund when you return the product





Most salon brands contain Sodium laureth sulfate, the gentlest surfactant and best for your hair.





Some salons will guarantee your color if you use their products.





Salon products are more concentrated. You can purchase an 8oz. bottle of salon shampoo and with daily washing, it should last you minimum of 6 weeks. Over The Counter brands aren't as concentrated causing you to use more shampoo. In the long run, you aren't saving money.





Salon shampoos contain higher quality protein based conditioners. These conditioners penetrate deeper into the hair shaft and lock in moisture.

No.Just because something is expensive doesn't mean it does any better job. i prefer the cheaper brands alot of the time.I have bought the higher priced shampoos before and I was mot impressed. So,I Guess its just a matter of ones preference.
Yes you can tell the difference. My EX used to make me buy cheap shampoo that's all I wanted was good shampoo as I don't really wear makeup, just woirry about my hair. Your hair is so much more EVERYTHING. By that I mean soft, shiny, moisturized or full bodied. So let her buy her good shampoo she'll love you for it
I use John Frieda Brilliant Brunette. It smells good and makes your hair full. It cost like $6.00, but it's worth it. Also suave makes my scalp dry.
NO, they are not. Pantene, herbal essence and Vive. They all work really well.
No, try Suave or VO5, they work really well, and smell great!
I am a Cosmetologist/Hairdresser and its the same crap. We were told in school to try and sell the expensive ones because that's where the salons really make their money. But, dandruff shampoo is dandruff shampoo, oily hair shampoo, dry hair shampoo and volume are all the same regardless of what the companies tell you.
To some it is...I use Fekkai, which is $26.00 a bottle. I love it because it doesnt dry my hair, and every since Ive been using it Ive gotten tons of compliments on how healthy my hair looks...but for you saying that you cant tell the difference is typical of a man (lol mine says the same thing!! lol)

My hairstylist told me the not all exspensive brands are good for ur hair...


She said if if u can see through the shampoo then its better for u than the ones u cant and usually the ones u cant see through are the ones that are mucho dinero..
Definitely better - especially if your hair is chemically treated (dye, perm, etc.) or is dry or super curly. Did I miss anyone? The cheap stuff doesn't condition enough.
actually there is a huge difference. while i dont buy the biolage (me ex did though and i used it all the time) i do know that it makes your hair much healthier than the suave. i personally use tresseme and whenever i try and go back to a different, cheaper type of shampoo my hair doesnt seem as healthy. i do understand what you mean about the cost though so if she's up for it tell her to try tresseme, its a LOT cheaper (around $5 i think) and it works just as well.

suave always made my scalp itchy, my favourite is garnier fructis brand shampoos and conditioners
tell her to use john frieda its relatively cheap but works great and is specifically designed for each hair color
I don't really think so..


I used White Rain once and my hair looked soo pretty..then about an hour later it looked as if I hadn't washed it in about a week..


I use Suave or Garnier Fructis.


And those work really well and aren't expensive.
All the great things on the shampoo bottle.....(dreamily). What they don't tell u is u have to continuously use that shampoo like forever to get the shiny, tangle-free, moisturized hair they talk about on the bottle. If you've been using Paul Mitchell stick to it!
Well, I can tell you this much. No one shampoo or conditioner can actually make your hair look shinier.
My wife always uses Pantene %26amp; Garnier Fructise. She keeps both in the shower. Her hair is always soft , healthy %26amp; smells good too.
