Most come with a guarantee. If you don't like it, most salons will give you a full refund when you return the product

Most salon brands contain Sodium laureth sulfate, the gentlest surfactant and best for your hair.

Some salons will guarantee your color if you use their products.

Salon products are more concentrated. You can purchase an 8oz. bottle of salon shampoo and with daily washing, it should last you minimum of 6 weeks. OTC brands aren't as concentrated causing you to use more shampoo. In the long run, you aren't saving money.

Salon shampoos contain higher quality protein based conditioners. These conditioners penetrate deeper into the hair shaft and lock in moisture.

Hope this helps~What is the difference between cheap and expensive shampoos?
Shampoo for the sole purpose of cleaning is shampoo. The only difference between cheap and expensive may be the amount of surfactants in it(which are what attracts the and gets rid of the ';dirt';.)

If you have oily hair DO NOT use pantene for a shampoo!

Use suave clarifying shampoo. Its really cheap but does a wonderful job for getting rid of the oil.

Follow that by pantene CONDITIONER . it will add a layer of protein around the circumferance of you individual starnds creating the illusion that your hair is thicker.

If you have dry ends, you may need to trim them as dryness is a sign of damage. if you dont want to trim them, buy a boar bristle brush and and brush your hair for about 100 strokes starting at the roots to the ends this will take some of the natural oils from your scalp to your ends.

if your hair is still not shiny after you do these things you may need a demineralizing treatment such as a malibu, which takes off all the built up ';gunk'; cause by the environment, hard water and excessive hairspray use.
Excellent for expensive and Never mind for the cheap ones.
On some news show they said nothings different really. But I disagree. I feel my hair is dryer %26amp; scalp is itchy cheaper shampoos. You might want to try Lush.com they have natural bath %26amp; body products. They have shampoos that come in bar soap form %26amp; I've heard are wonderful for oily scalp. They also have customers reviews which I always find to be helpful. I hope you find something that works for you.:)
I think in general, shampoos have similar ingredients. However, some are advertised by salon people and therefore make us think that these brands are better. I, for one, believed the salon people haha. If you have oily hair, i think you should shampoo frequently. For volume, try pantene volumizing shampoo and its conditioner. For dry ends, you have to get them trimmed once a month. I know, it seems like a lot work and waste of money, right? I feel you, i have a wavy hair. Sometimes when it's very humid outside, it doesn't matter what brand of shampoo or hair product I use, the result is always bad. So, in conclusion, just try to establish a hair regimen and get your end trimmed once a month...the rest, leave it to mother nature ;P
nothing-except advertising
Oily hair actually is healthy hair than dry ones because it means your scalp is healthy. But for shampoos, choose the ones that are meant for oily hair and learn to shampoo daily. If your hair is oily, ask your dermatologist for the type of conditioners you can use as well. As for cheap vs expensive shampoos, its not proven which is better but the expensive ones are just expensive because of their brand name. Try to find some Pantene or Hair and Shoulders, Palmolive shampoo for oily hair is also good. I have oily hair also and I use Kirkland Shampoo for color treated hair and the conditioner that comes with it. Its not as expensive.
for spilt ends u can apply olive oil at the ends. its very effective. if u've dandruff first u should take steps to remove that. since urs is a oily scalp dandruff might not be there. pls dont change shampoos frequently. u can consult a trychologist(hair specialists) .
