Why are some brands of shampoo twice as expensive as others?

like suave goes for like 2 bucks but dove goes for like 7....y?

what's the difference? Why are some brands of shampoo twice as expensive as others?
It depends on the type of shampoo (volume shampoo, shiny shampoo etc.) Usually that depends on the price. Plus some are name brand. But the regular shampoo doesn't have a different, just the smell I guess and how it lathers. Why are some brands of shampoo twice as expensive as others?
The main answer: marketing/branding, packaging, and corporate overhead.

Subanswer: in general, salon brands may have less harsh detergents/cleansing agents (such as sodium laureth sulfate versus ammonium laurel sulfate) so it won't strip your hair as badly, and are gentler in the long run. However you can still find quality shampoos and not pay a ridiculous amount of money for them. I don't think drugstore brands and salon brands are 'chemically' different enough to warrant the price difference.
Sauve is an imitation line. They steal ideas from the other brands and create them as 'affordable beauty' etc...

You get what you pay for. Suave always had my hair really dry and brittle, where as the brands their products were based on actually worked for me.

There is always a reason for hair products that cost more than others, and its because your paying for quality, not the name. Its the same for everything. You may think that the other brand is 5x cheaper but its also 5x as bad. Believe it or not the more expensive stuff is a better investment because in the long run you won't need to be buying alot of stuff to fix your damaged hair.

I use to pay 12.00 for Garnier fructis shampoo %26amp; conditioner, after I stopped using it my hair started falling out, why?? i don't know! I switched to bumble and bumble, paying 30.00 a bottle and its worth it. It last along time plus I can do more with my hair because its healthy and luckily the damage from using cheap shampoo was repaired! D:
the kind of shampoo that you buy at the grocery store/ wal mart are cheaper because they are ... well, cheaper! they leave residue in your hair over time, and eventually make your hair harder to manage. professional brands such as RUSK or TIGI or BIOLAGE are excellent and well worth the investment. a Liter will go for about $20-30.
well suave never really worked for my hair but i use tressemme. its not that expensive and makes my hair really soft. i think more expensive is supposed to be better or something.
